National Poetry Day 2012 falls on Oct 4th this year – http://www.nationalpoetryday.co.uk/

We’ve set up a display in the library to celebrate the day.

The theme for this year is stars!  We like the poem below which reflects this theme….

When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer by Walt Whitman
When I heard the learn’d astronomer,
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me,
When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room,
How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick,
Till rising and gliding out I wander’d off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look’d up in perfect silence at the stars.

eBooks at WIT Libraries

Just before Christmas we promised you access to over 70,000 eBooks in WIT Libraries. Well now, instead of 70,000, over 120,000 ebooks have landed and they’re available immediately for you to browse and read from WIT Libraries!

ebrary contains over 71,000 ebooks on all subject areas including Art and Architecture, Business & Finance, Computers & IT, Engineering and Technology, History, Language and Literature, Law, Health Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences and much more. WIT Libraries are delighted to bring you access to up-to-date ebooks from publishers such as Open University Press, Oxford Publishing, and others.

Accessing ebrary ebook titles

There are two ways to discover and find any ebook in WIT Libraries.

The first is through the Library OPAC. When you’re searching for books in the library on the OPAC, you’ll almost certainly discover some ebook titles among your search. Follow the links to open the full-text ebook on your machine.

The second method of finding and reading ebooks is through the ebrary database itself. From the library database page, choose ebrary from the list (on-campus and off-campus links supplied). Here you can search by title, author, subject terms, etc, to find the ebooks you need. ebrary users can also find titles by using the Advanced Search options.

Reading, Saving and Printing ebrary ebook titles

Most users will access ebrary ebook titles by “streaming” access (i.e. reading/browsing on screen). To declutter the reading area of your browser, choose the ebrary Reader icon.

You can also download a copy of the ebook for 14 days, but you need to register and login for a personal bookshelf to do this. You also need to download and install Adobe Digital Editions onto your machine to download the ebook for 14 days. Please talk to a member of library staff to discuss the option to download ebook titles.

You can also print from ebrary. Just choose the print option from the InfoTools icon. Please note, there’s a copyright printing limit of 40 pages per boook.

Do you have a SMART phone? Tablet Device? Or ereader? There are also a number of options to access ebrary ebook titles on your device.
