Any Books You Don’t Need?

The 7th March is World Book Day. We are hoping to send a shipment of books to Africa via MacTrans.
We would welcome any third-level books from WIT staff and students that are less than 10 years old and in good condition. The circulation desks in both the Cork Road and the College Street campus libraries will be happy to take them from you.
Book Aid is part of the Meitheal project.

Readers on Reading Display

Earlier this year David Keating, our chaplain here at WIT, compiled a selection of staff book choices into the booklet known as Readers on Reading.

If you’re passing be sure to call in to see our display and to pick up a copy of the booklet which includes lots of ideas for Christmas reading!

Check out our library catalogue OPAC for print and e-book links to a number of these titles.

National Poetry Day 2012 falls on Oct 4th this year – http://www.nationalpoetryday.co.uk/

We’ve set up a display in the library to celebrate the day.

The theme for this year is stars!  We like the poem below which reflects this theme….

When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer by Walt Whitman
When I heard the learn’d astronomer,
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me,
When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room,
How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick,
Till rising and gliding out I wander’d off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look’d up in perfect silence at the stars.
